Matt began his building apprenticeship with a company on the North Shore in January 2001, after moving down from his hometown in Dargaville. After completing his training and he spent 10 years working on a wide range of buildings, from multi-level factories to new builds home and villa renovations.
“I always thought I’d be an architect. I loved drawing, design and coming up with new ideas. But there was one minor problem. I wanted a job where I could work outside. My solution was to put the two together and become a builder!
After completing my theory units at Unitech in 2001, I worked my way up the ladder becoming a Site Foreman for a building company that specialised in villa, bungalow and heritage homes. Renovations, extensions and restorations.
I absolutely loved it! I enjoyed the challenge and problem solving that’s required to restore the charm and character of these older homes - while giving them modern comforts and technology.
In 2011 it was time to plot my own course and I formed BBM Construction. I took a decade of practical building skills with me and matched it with my passion for great design. Being involved with the design from the start of each project has led to some superior outcomes for my clients. And it’s something the sets us apart.
Over the years our building company in Auckland has also surrounded ourselves with a passionate, reliable team of builders and subcontractors. And we’ve built an external group of first-class collaborators, such as designers, engineers, quantity surveyors, colour consultants and the like.
The future is exciting, and we are always looking for better ways to build and opportunities to utilise the latest building technology and products.
But one thing remains the same. We will always build with the utmost care and take genuine pride in completing each project to the very best of our ability.”

Problem building projects often occur due to poor communication between a builder, client, council, consultants and all the other parties involved. Which is why BBM Construction keeps an open line of communication at all times. In the first instance, we'll ensure you are 100% clear about what is happening and when, and we'll keep you updated if any issues arise. And we're always available to talk through or explain any aspect you're not sure of.
Work with the guy who owns the company
You will be working directly with the owner. Matt personally oversees each job, no matter how big or small, ensuring consistency and making sure your project runs as smooth as possible to achieve your desired goal.
